Why…Marsha?

I strongly believe that someone’s roots and family affect an individual, a lot. Here’s a little bit of why I am the way I am… and where it all started.

It starts in Eastern Europe. My grandparents immigrated from Ukraine, Poland and my grandpa on my Mom’s side just kinda hopped on a boat at age 20 something, homeless and a bit rebellious (he got kicked out of his house and lived in the trenches with soldiers… probably killed a few people). My blood is part Ukranian, Polish, and Roma Gypsy. I look more Roma than anything else. No gypsy puns, please. They all got on a boat to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Part of my family landed in Paraguay and part went to Buenos Aires. Long story short, the part that ended up in Paraguay… after living among the natives and walking to church barefoot… made their way to Buenos Aires. My parents were born, met, got married and moved to Seattle, Washington.

So here I am. Coming from a past of two generations of immigrants, raised in a home that has adopted the humor, sarcasm, food, drink and language of Buenos Aires, Argentina (which in itself is a stew of culture) but also the cleanliness, pride and habits of a European. To say the least, I got my American influence from anywhere BUT my home.

Currently, I’m much too curious about the world around me which I’ve discovered… runs in the family. Many of my cousins and uncles are missionaries or work for NGOs in South America. My parents came to the United States with two suitcases and since then we have been blessed tremendously. They are two of the hardest working people I know.

In all of this, I’ve realized how God has molded me and created me into a person who is made for one purpose. I don’t know, completely, what that purpose is… but I know what I want to do. Sometimes a calling is SO freaking obvious, you just don’t know it.

That’s all, folks. I’ve got some adventures ahead… so watch out.
